The whole process, including the parts nobody puts on a website.

Matchmaking is an old business with a lot of mystique attached to it. There is not much. Here is exactly what happens, in order, from the first thirty minutes to the debrief after the date that did not work.

Step 1

Download the app, or book the call

The app’s welcome screen

Two doors, and they lead to the same place.

The app is free, takes about ninety seconds, and gets you introductions from the next morning. Most people start here. It costs you nothing to find out whether the quality is real.

The call is thirty minutes on video and it is where the one-to-one work begins. If you already know you want the full service, skip ahead.

Nothing is signed at this stage in either direction.

Step 2

A conversation

Booking a consultation with Samuel in the app

On a consultation, Samuel will ask about the last three people you dated and why each one ended. He will ask what you are unwilling to compromise on, then ask again, because the first answer is nearly always the polite one.

At the end he will tell you one of three things: that he can help and here is how, that you would be better served by someone else and here is who, or that you should come to an event first and talk again afterward. All three of those are real answers he gives.

Step 3

The Five Alignments

Ranking the five values in the app

Love, respect, communication, commitment, a brighter tomorrow. You rank them, and then you say what each one actually means to you — because the word “commitment” is doing wildly different work in different people’s heads.

This is what the matching runs on. It is also what you see first when an introduction arrives: where the two of you overlap, and where you do not.

Step 4

Your file

A profile in the app, in her own words

For one-to-one clients, a longer intake. Two hours, in person where that is possible.

It is not a personality quiz. It is practical. What your week actually looks like. Whether you want children and how firmly. How you behave in an argument. What the last relationship taught you that you would rather not have learned.

This document is what Samuel works from. No other member ever sees it. It is never sold, never used for advertising, and never fed into an advertising profile.

Step 5

The search

Today’s introduction in the app, with where you align

Three sources, in this order.

Members. People in the Aligned Hearts app who have said in their own words what they are looking for.

Events. Samuel runs them and he meets everyone who walks in. A surprising share of the best introductions start in a room, not a database.

Outside all of it. When the right person is not in either pool, he goes and finds them — through his network, through the city, through people who have no idea a matchmaker exists. That last part is most of what a retainer actually buys.

Step 6

Introductions

An introduction in the app, with what you share

Names arrive one at a time or in small batches, never as a list of twenty. Each one comes with a photo, the details that actually matter, your alignment across the Five, and the reason it was made.

You can say no. You should say no sometimes; a client who says yes to everything is telling a matchmaker nothing. When both sides say yes, the introduction is made and you get help planning the first date.

Step 7

The honest part

Your matches in the app, and whose turn it is to reply

After every date, you talk. Not “how did it go” — specifically what worked, what did not, and what surprised you.

This is where matchmaking earns its money. The second round is always better than the first, because by then Samuel knows more about you than you managed to say out loud in the intake.

Most people meet someone worth a second date inside the first three introductions. Some take longer. Nobody gets a guarantee, from Samuel or from anyone else in this business who is being straight with you.

Three things, and this only works if you do them.

  • Be reachable.

If a name goes out on Tuesday and the reply comes the following Monday, the person is gone. That is not a threat, it is just how adults with options behave.

  • Actually go.

The introduction is not the point. The evening is the point. A yes that never turns into a Thursday is worth nothing to either of you.

  • Tell the truth in the debrief, especially when it is awkward.

“She was lovely and I felt absolutely nothing” is the single most useful sentence in this business, and people are strangely reluctant to say it.

Dating, matched on what matters.

Free to download, free to join, and about ninety seconds to set up. Nobody on it is an algorithm’s idea of you.

Download on the App Store Get it on Google Play

Free. 18+. No subscription, no paywalled messages, no boosts to buy.

Or talk to Samuel first.

Thirty minutes, on video, nothing to sign. Worst case you get a straight opinion from someone who does this for a living and a clear answer about whether he can help.

The Aligned Hearts app

Almost ready.

It is in the hands of the App Store and Google Play. The moment it is approved, these buttons will take you straight to it.

Until then, the matchmaking carries on the way it always has — over a conversation.
